Born in the shadows of 1990s Brooklyn and originally released on Bobbito Garcia’s Fondle 'Em Records, the project evolved into a dark, hypnotic album that pushed the boundaries of underground hip-hop.

Originally released as an EP in 1995 and expanded into a full-length LP in 1997—with a bonus cut added in 2000 The Cenobites LP features gritty tracks with abstract lyricism, surreal sci-fi imagery, and jazz-infused, unconventional beats. Highlights include Kool Keith’s high-pitched, experimental flow (under his Rhythm X alias) and Godfather Don’s distinctive production, marked by heavy horn samples and hard-hitting drums.
