The album was recorded with the Roma Sinfonietta Orchestra and Gilda Buttà on the Gilda Buttà on piano. Morricone served as arranger, conductor and producer. The album spent 105 weeks on the Billboard Top Classical Albums. "Yo-Yo Ma Plays Ennio Morricone" positively distinguishes itself from most other interpretive Albums.

The original composer of the music, Morricone, had as much influence on the album as MA and his creative team.
