In Mládí (Czech: “Youth”), written for piano and strings, Hisaishi takes on the role of soloist and conducts the Vienna Symphony Orchestra from the piano. “Summer” is taken from the road movie Kikujiro (1999), “HANA-BI” is from the crime thriller of the same name (1997), and Kids Return (1996) is from Kitano’s coming-of-age story.
